Battlefield Tourist

Just returned from a great trip to the Narva Battlefields in real Eastern Front weather conditions , temerature down to - 18 during the day and a metre of snow at least , gives you a nice flavour of what it was really like weather wise !!

Luckily we had two days of nice clear weather and got some good photos of the Sinimae , Auwere area and in Narva itself , the sight of the two ancient fortesses of Hermannsburg and Ivangorod glowering at each other acros the river as they have done for centuries, Europe and Estonia on one side and Russia on the other , was a great site covered in the snows of winter.

I love my holidays all over the world but being a Military Historian visiting Battlefields is my special time !!

I have been touring Battlefields in Europe and Russia for many years covering mostly the Second World War but also some of the Battle areas from WW1.

Places such as Stalingrad ( Volgograd ). Moscow ,Sevastopol , Narva in Estonia ( of my favourite trips ) Normandy , Monte Cassino , Arnhem , Ardennes , Berlin , Somme , Ypres are some of the places I have visited.

Some of the places are beautiful areas and cities in their own right and their History of conflict only adds to their charm.

I want to relay some of my visits to some of the more unusual locations and hope that others will do the same and share their experiences !!
